Digital Photos in Winter
Cold, snow, blisters, moist and temperature variations are just some of the characteristics of winter. They all modify the usual abrogation of digital photography subjects and apparatus behavior. One of the most crucial things when taking pictures on a cold winter day it’s to be dressed comfortable enough, according to temperature and surroundings. Remember that it’s winter and dress accordingly. A few stratus of clothes help you maintain body warmth and at the same time they are much easier to take off when you get too hot. Don’t avoid hats in the winter, you can get seriously ill if not wearing one.
remember to wear proper boots and be careful not to have frozen hands. The gloves must not be too swelled. Did you ever try to push something as tiny as the buttons on a digital camera with ski gloves? It might be fun, but also annoying, trying that. try to imagine the scene you are about to photograph in your head and when you are ready to take the picture, watch the small camera LCD and take off the gloves quickly and briefly, just to push the button. So, problem solved: gloves are warm and stay on all the time, hands don’t freeze and picture gets taken quickly and accurately.
It’s cold outside and if you have a digital camera you notice that the digital card and other connections are not to be used at temperatures that are dangerously extreme, usually between -15 degrees and +35 degrees Celsius. Most plastic parts that compose the camera do not maintain the same durability when temperatures go too low and might easily brake. If you plan on changing batteries while on the mountain, think again because of a tiny little bit of moist enters the battery compartment, the whole camera could get ruined. Better take along a bigger memory card than two smaller cards. For obvious reasons.
If you are taking pictures of snowy landscapes, do not let the camera auto detect the setting. Taking snow pictures must be done manually because snow can end up grey if the camera darkens it to emphasis the subject.
